On November 28, 1443, the national legend of Albania, a sovereign known as Skanderbeg (George Kastrioti), raised his flag over the fortification of Krujë in disobedience of the Turks who governed the country, Flag of Albania. His little mountainous country had the option to oppose the powers of the Ottoman Empire, albeit after Skanderbeg's demise in 1468 independence was lost once more.
